In 1958, Langston Hughes recited his poem “The Weary Blues” to jazz accompaniment with the Doug Parker Band on the CBUT program The 7 O’Clock Show. “The Weary Blues” was one of the many poems that Hughes wrote that utilized a rhythm similar to that of jazz music, founding the style of poetry called jazz poetry.
