American artist Jenny Holzer worked in conjunction with the US Department of State’s Office of Art in Embassies (AIE) on a public art installation that took take place on five consecutive nights from Sept 17 to 21 2023 on the National Mall in Washington DC.
The installation was a series of light projections incorporating text excerpts by diverse voices from across history on the topic of democracy, including quotes from Langston Hughes.
The text was projected onto the facades of the Hirshhorn Museum and the National Museum of American History.
